English Pipes

Note: unless otherwise noted, photographs were taken against a background of 1" squares

Charatan Special billiard.  Lane stamp; tapered stem has faint "CP" logo without paint fill.  In pretty decent shape with some rounding of inner rim and slight rap marks.  Stampings are the usual "Charatan's Make, London England, Special" and "49," all on the left side.  $75

Comoy's London Pride.  At the time this pipe was made it was the next-to-top-of-the-line.  Has three-piece "C" logo on slightly oxidized stem (little enough that I didn't think buffing was warranted).  Also one smallish ding on the rim.  Stampings are "Comoy's London Pride" (left) and "Made in London England" and "210" on the right.  A nice little pipe for flakes; if it were a bit larger I'd keep it.  $35

GBD International billiard.  A good-sized billiard with a clean rim.  A couple tooth ripples on the underside of the stem.  Stampings are "GBD International London Made" on the left, and "London England" and "1" on the right.  $25

GBD New Standard Canadian shape 254.  A nice smaller Canadian with a few rap marks on the rim and a couple toothmarks on the stem.  Stampings are "GBD New Standard" on the top, and "London England 254" on the bottom.  So-so grain, which wasn't exactly a priority back then.  $25

No Name skater.  This pipe seems like it should've come from the Wade/Charatan enterprise, but any nomenclature it might've had is long gone.  It has a couple fills on the bowl but is otherwise in decent shape.  And all that excess wax I left in the bowl is yours for free ... OK, OK, I'll clean it out.  Sheesh.  $15

Tilshead bent billiard.  It has 4 fairly obvious pits (probably why it's a Tilshead and not an Upshall), and one shallow toothmark.  Stampings are "Tilshead England" on the left and "Made by Hand" on the right.  IMO, good value in a classic British pipe. $45

Upshall bent billiard.  A smaller Upshall, unsmoked.  Nice blast and typical Upshall construction and drilling.  Drilled for filters; I rarely smoke filter pipes, so I'm selling this one cheap.  Stampings are "James Upshall, Hand Made in England" and "3", also the "JU" mark on the stem.  $55

Upshall bent saddle billiard.  Larger than the above, unsmoked, and not drilled for any @#$%&*! filters.  SRP on these was $150.  Stampings are "James Upshall, Hand Made in England," "FH," and "4", also the "JU" mark on the stem.  $85
